I know what bedspreads and comforters are, but what are coverlets, duvets, and duvet covers?
A coverlet is similar to a bedspread. It may be made from a single layer or a double layer of fabric, but it does not have an opening for a comforter or a duvet.
Duvet is a European term for comforter. Onoroto exclusively sells Scandia Down duvets/comforters. To protect your duvet/comforter and to match your personal style and décor, we also sell a wide range of duvet covers. A duvet cover is made from two layers of fabric and it has an opening through which a duvet/comforter is inserted.
Is thread count important?
Thread count measures the number of threads per inch in a woven fabric, and it is only one of many factors to consider when evaluating the quality of linens. A key component of soft, durable linens is the length of the staple of the fiber from which the threads are spun. Fine linens like those sold at Onorato are made of long-staple fibers to provide a soft touch and to resist wear. Egyptian cotton is the primary example of a long-staple fiber. Beware of cheap brands that use thread count to divert attention away from a lower quality fiber.
I sleep on my side. What kind of pillow should I get?
No matter how you sleep, the function of the pillow is to maintain proper alignment of your head and neck. Side sleepers often prefer a firm pillow due to the gap created between the shoulder and the bed. Back sleepers usually like a medium pillow and tummy sleepers, a soft pillow.
I like down, but I have allergies. What are my options?
Scandia offers a down-free pillow that mirrors the qualities of down for those who prefer a synthetic pillow. Please note, though, that all of Scandia's products are hypoallergenic. Often a perceived down allergy is actually an allergic reaction to dust. Scandia washes its down at least 12 cycles, and as a result, its down is 300 times cleaner than what is legally required, greatly minimizing the chance of an allergic reaction to dust.
What is fill power?
Fill power is the number of cubic inches that one ounce of down will fill. The higher the number, the greater the warmth and resiliency.
How do I wash fine linens?
With proper care, the linens we sell at Onorato will last a long time because the staple of the cotton and the construction of other fibers helps prevent weak areas in the fabric. To maximize longevity, follow the manufacturer's recommendations. More generally, wash linens in warm water, and rinse in cold. Wash and dry one sheet per load to eliminate entanglements between sheets, which stress individual fibers and lead to premature wear.
How do I iron sheets?
All cotton or linen sheets require ironing to look their best. Remove the sheet from the dryer while it is still slightly damp, and spread it on the bed or a flat surface. This will take out most of the wrinkles. If further wrinkle removal is required, use a steam iron. At Onorato, we use a Laurastar steam generating ironing system that penetrates multiple layers of sheeting and reduces our ironing time.

How do I get to Onorato?
Onorato is located at 109 East Palace Avenue, in the historic downtown district of Santa Fe. We are one block east of the Plaza and the Palace of the Governors. Look for the turquoise columns and railings on our portale. Parking is available on the street or at municipal lots and garages.
What is the significance of the 109 East Palace address?
The space now occupied by Onorato was leased as a security office of the Manhattan Project during World War II. Beginning in 1943, personnel traveling to the research complex at Los Alamos, 35 miles northwest of Santa Fe, were required to report to 109 East Palace. Each person received a security pass that entitled them to entry into Los Alamos. The office also served as a liaison between the laboratory personnel and the outside world. The office closed in 1963.
